August 19, 2008
HONOLULU – Calvin Poouahi from Wailuku traveled on the Alakai today from Maui to O‘ahu as Hawaii Superferry’s 125,000th passenger. Calvin, who was traveling with his wife Yolanda and two children, Isaac and Jazmine, was notified during the voyage that he was the 125,000th passenger.
“Today is a special day for our company as we have reached a significant milestone for our service. One hundred and twenty-five thousand passengers...and counting…have sailed on over 400 Hawaii Superferry voyages,” said Hawaii Superferry President & CEO Tom Fargo. “We congratulate and thank Calvin and his family for voyaging with us and representing an important milestone for the people and businesses of Hawaii. The Poouahis are representative of the many families that have traveled together over a busy and active summer.”
The Poouahi family was traveling on Hawaii Superferry to help move their daughter Jasmine to O‘ahu to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa. As the 125,000th passenger, they received a year’s worth of trips – one roundtrip voyage per month for the family of four plus a vehicle – on Hawaii Superferry. In addition to a recognition ceremony onboard, during which the Poouahi family received a gift basket of Hawaii Superferry logo items and other goods available at the onboard gift shop – The Calabash, the voyage was celebrated with each passenger receiving a limited edition t-shirt commemorating the milestone voyage.
Hawaii Superferry's ship, the Alakai, seats up to 800 passengers and carries approximately 200 vehicles. The company operates a daily roundtrip morning voyage between O‘ahu and Maui and a roundtrip afternoon voyage between O‘ahu and Maui four days a week.
